The Clippers’ New Intuit Dome Will Improve Arena Standards

Intuit Dome, the Los Angeles Clippers’ new home in Inglewood, California, promises to revolutionize basketball stadium standards as we move closer to its completion date.

With plans to open for the 2024-25 season, Clippers owner Steve Ballmer is looking forward to his 2 billion dollar dome having advanced technology and amenities that pays homage to Los Angeles’ vibrant, modern culture.

Carbon-neutral energy will fuel the arena, and the dome pledges comfortability for every type of fan. Ballmer says upper bowl fans will “have same-sized seats” to avoid “cram[ing] up there.”

“I had to make sure the upper bowl was good,” said Ballmer. “We really wanted to say, `Hey, you may not be able to sit as close to the court, but that doesn’t mean you have to be uncomfortable. Normally people cram up there. We’ll have the same-sized seats.”

– Steve Ballmer told the Los Angeles Times.

The Clippers will have a home dedicated to its fans, who no longer have to share with three other sports leagues. Get ready to experience Los Angeles basketball like never before. Here is everything you need to know about the Clippers’ new Intuit Dome!

Design and Architecture

Los Angeles-based architecture firm AECOM heads the dome’s design and structure. The dome’s skin encompasses diagonally intersecting metal panels woven together, forming diamond shapes.

The team’s administrative offices, training facility, and community amenities will all be in one location.

Environmental Impact

AECOM states the dome will be fully electric and naturally ventilated, running on batteries and solar power with enough energy storage to power full basketball games or concerts. Intuit dome is the first large-scale venue committed to monitoring its impact on greenhouse gas emissions and transportation.

Features that Set the Intuit Dome Apart

The Clippers have infamously been known as second-fiddle to the Lakers in Los Angeles, and Steve Ballmer is tired of it. That notion is the driving force behind the Clippers’ building their own space.

Ballmer told ESPN, “We needed to say, ‘We’re our own guys. We don’t play in the same place as the other guys. We’re going to have our own identity.” The Intuit Dome will reflect Ballmer’s vision with new and exciting features that separates them from the competition.
